Job Description:

ROLE of the POSITION

Primary duties for the Safety Training Specialist will include:

  • Identify training needs, publicize training dates, and schedule training classes.
  • Present in-person and virtual training classes.
  • Develop lesson plans for training classes.
  • Assist UNLV employees and students with the registration of safety training classes.
  • Certify equipment operators
  • Process course completions and training records updates.
  • Handle requests for assistance and communicate training program information with departments.

Secondary duties include:

  • Review OSHA and other safety standards to ensure compliance with training courses.
  • Update existing safety training presentations as needed.
  • Review drafts of new or revised safety training courses.
  • Assist with training course development for the web based training platform.
  • Provide assistance to department and Business Affairs staff members.
  • Participate in meetings, safety committees and other events, as needed.
  • Serve as backup for emergency response exercises/real world scenarios.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1 – 3 years of practical experience in developing lesson plans and conducting in person safety training.

Additionally 1-3 years of experience and knowledge of:

  • Presentation techniques including the use of audio/visual projection equipment during training courses, and how to deliver effective training.
  • Experience operating computers, software, and other electronic devices relative to training.
  • Understanding of OSHA standards.
  • Developing PowerPoint presentations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

3 – 5 years of experience. Knowledge of:

  • OSHA standards, NFPA requirements, NRS and NAC codes and requirements.
  • Authorized OSHA 10 and 30 hour outreach trainer.
  • Credentialed as an equipment trainer for forklifts and mobile elevated work platforms.
  • First-Aid and CPR instructor.
