HPS Course Overview

Students enrolled in the hand and power tool safety training course from The National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) learn the basic safety procedures and preventive measures required for the safe operation of these tools. You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of potential hazards and how to avoid injuries on the worksite.

The most significant hazards posed by hand and power tools often stem from misuse, so employees should be aware of the potential dangers and how to prevent injuries.

Successful specialists who complete the hand and power tools course will be able to:

  • Recognize and address potential hazards and improper use of specific tools.
  • Understand and implement safety measures for tool use.
  • Identify unsafe practices that could cause injuries.
  • Know and conform with OSHA standards for general industry, maritime or construction applications.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Our online HPS course takes approximately eight hours to finish, depending on your existing knowledge. Students who complete this IACET-accredited course and obtain their Hand and Power Tool Specialist certificate and designation will also receive 0.8 continuing education units (CEUs) for ongoing learning.

  • Recertification

    NASP hand and power tools specialists are required to recertify every three years by taking a refresher course and exam. The recertification process ensures that you are up to date on the most recent OSHA standards and any new power tool safety precautions.

    The cost to recertify is $95 for the first six months following your certificate expiration date. After that six-month window, recertification may require additional fees.
