The student will be able to identify: the responsibilities of employers and employees, the safety requirements for various types of cranes and derricks, and the hazards associated with crane and derrick equipment. The required amount of time to complete the course is dependent upon your knowledge of workplace safety. You have up to six months to complete the course.

Cranes, derricks and hoists are commonly used in industrial and construction settings for moving large, heavy loads. While these machines are crucial to many operations, they can also be hazardous to operate and work around without the proper training.

CDS Course Overview

Our crane, derrick and hoist safety course gives students a thorough understanding of the risks of using this equipment on worksites and the precautions to take. Students will learn to identify potential hazards and conform to OSHA safety standards, gain a comprehensive knowledge of the machinery, and learn more about the roles of employees and employers in ensuring crane safety.

This course is estimated to take about 13 hours to complete, depending on your existing knowledge.

  • Continuing Education Units

    (1.30) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.

  • Online Exams

    The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive a certificate. You have two opportunities to pass the exam.

  • Recertification

    A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $150.
