Description

The NASP 30-hour Construction training is designed for managers and supervisors to act as a guide to growing and nurturing a safety culture in your workplace. This course will provide a comprehensive overview of OSHA’s policies, procedures, and standards covered by 29 CFR Part 1926.

As a student, you will learn about the basic elements of a workplace safety and health program and how to manage them. This includes understanding your employer’s responsibilities for worker safety, as well as you and your employee’s rights to learn about the potential hazards of your job. 

Students must receive additional training, as required by OSHA standards, on specific hazards of the job in addition to this training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a NASP 30-Hour Construction certificate and wallet card.


Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

  • Explain the importance of OSHA in providing a safe and healthful workplace to workers covered by OSHA
  • Understand how management plays a role to create a healthy and safe work environment
  • Identify the struck-by and caught-in or caught-between hazards associated with serious construction-related injuries
  • Recognize the appropriate PPE to use based on a workplace evaluation and the types of hazards present
  • Distinguish hazards posed by lead, asbestos, and crystalline silica in construction and how to control and avoid them
  • Recognize the elements of the Hazard Communication Standard, recognize the information required on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and warning labels, as well as how they are used and maintained the Globally Harmonized System (GHS)
  • Interpret safe work practices for electricity, including recognizing electrical terms, basic electrical safety principles, and electrical safety regulations
  • Recognize the safety hazards associated with non-powered hand tools and identify hazards related to powered hand tools
  • Recognize types of fall hazards and how to prevent falls in your work environment by using appropriate fall protection
  • Identify the dangers involved in excavations and the safe work practices for employees working in or near trenches and excavations
  • Recognize the types of scaffolds and how to safely use them
  • Identify the safety requirements for working with or near cranes, including how to avoid accidents and how to recognize hazards
  • Recognize safe operating procedures for forklifts, workplace hazards, and how to handle special types of forklifts
  • Identify a confined space, its hazards, the OSHA requirements for confined spaces, and the duties and responsibilities of confined space workers
  • Identify methods of fire prevention and describe OSHA requirements for fire protection
  • Outline the general safety requirements for welding and cutting and list the safety precautions
  • Identify the OSHA safety requirements for construction operations involving concrete, masonry, and steel erection activities

Prerequisites

The 30-HR Construction Course is a foundational course that requires no prerequisites.


Continuing Education Units

(3) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.


Online Exams

The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have two opportunities to pass each exam.


Recertification

A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $.
