Cabinet manufacturer cited 3X for failure to abate hazards; faces $157K in fines

Despite the findings of a January 2021 federal workplace safety investigation, a Pensacola custom cabinet manufacturer continued to expose workers to fire risks, inspectors with OSHA found in a follow-up visit.

In October 2021, OSHA inspectors discovered the cabinet manufacturer did not have automatic sprinklers in place in a spray booth. Additionally, the company exposed workers to fire and explosive hazards by allowing them to use unapproved electrical equipment near flammable stains and paints – violations for which OSHA cited the company in an earlier inspection. The company also failed to fit test and train workers using respirators and did not ensure proper storage of the devices.

OSHA’s October inspection resulted in citations for three failure-to-abate violations. Deering Custom Cabinets faces $157,977 in proposed penalties.
