The Assistant Director Environmental, Health, and Safety Affairs position is an integral part of the Environmental, Health, and Safety Affairs team. This team monitors, tracks and responds to environmental, health, safety, and sustainability regulations and legislation that impact the printing industry. The Assistant Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety Affairs will work with other team members to represent the printing industry before state and federal regulatory agencies and occasionally state and federal legislators. The primary focus of this position relates to safety and health regulations and issues, at both the state and federal level. The role also provides member services including onsite & remote consulting for PRINTING United Alliance members, written materials (e.g., articles, summaries, fact sheets, guidance materials, etc.), presentations, and webinars for PRINTING United Alliance and NAPCO Media.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, identify, and prioritize regulatory issues facing the printing industry and develop strategies to address them.
  • Coordinate Printing United Alliance’s response to agency actions, including drafting formal comments and public testimony through input from relevant standing committees and/or task forces, and other external industry organizations or groups, as required.
  • Develop and execute consulting projects both remotely and onsite to help evaluate and respond to citations and notices of violation. Provide support in the preparation and updating of emission tracking spreadsheets, completing required compliance reports, monitoring project status, conducting compliance audits and perform training.
  • Serve as a knowledge resource for members on relevant regulations and provide insight and/or informal interpretations to the extent possible that may require researching requirements, developing materials, and reviewing existing material, guidance, court decisions, and interpretations.
  • Develop and execute, when necessary, special projects including regulatory and other EHS research and prepare a report on the findings.
  • Serve as point of contact on regulatory matters for environmental, health and safety, and transportation and other agency rulemakings.
  • Advocate association positions before various regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with PRINTING United Alliance’s federal legislative team on initiatives on issues that cross legislative and regulatory lines.
  • Draft communications to update our membership on regulatory actions.
  • Participate in various association committees, coordinate projects, and communications.
  • Develop articles, correspondence, products, and services related to sustainability, environmental, safety, health, and other regulatory topics. Help maintain flow of information to the membership on pertinent issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Work Experience Requirements:

  • 4-year Baccalaureate Degree.
  • 5 or more years of experience with a federal agency, law firm (in the regulatory group), and/or association.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • A clear understanding of regulations and how they are organized as published by a variety of regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • Ability to travel as necessary to fulfill responsibilities.

This position will be primarily remote. The position will require travel as needed to attend meetings, give presentations, attend Printing United Expo, and member locations for learning and on-site consulting assignments. Travel is estimated between 10% and 25%, depending on work.
