Job Description:
Who is MCS? Mid-America Conversion Services (MCS) is cleaning up the environment! We manage the Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion Facilities at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) sites near Paducah, Kentucky and Portsmouth, Ohio. The conversion facilities were designed and constructed to convert DOE’s inventory of DUF6 produced by the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion and the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plants to a more stable uranium oxide form for reuse, storage, and/or transportation and disposition.
NOTE: Substance Abuse Program Plan position and subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
Position Overview:
Under general supervision responsible for planning, directing, and managing all waste management and transportation (WM&T) activities in support of the DUF6 project. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Functional:
- Oversees the development and implementation of WM&T programs and ensures compliance with DOE O 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management and the waste acceptance criteria for a Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility
- Manages and supervises WM&T personnel
- Provides leadership direction to management and professional personnel of the organization in the area of waste management
- Delivers technical assistance and expertise to WM&T Specialists
- Plans and implements waste and product disposition (i.e., waste generation, transport, storage, treatment, minimization, certification, packing, and disposal)
- Prepares and develops training materials
- Directs training of waste generators
- Acts as subject-matter expert (SME) for WM&T-related activities
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements (Must meet DOE O 426.2 minimum requirements)
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- 10+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- 4+ years of nuclear experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) credential
