This position reports to the general manager of the Metropolitan Council’s Metro Transit Division. Metro Transit is one of the country’s largest transit systems, employs more than 3,000 people; and pre-COVID-19, provided more than 80 million rides a year through an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains as well as resources for those who carpool, vanpool, walk, or bike in the Twin Cities.
The Director of Rail and Bus Safety (Metro Transit) serves as the chief safety officer in the organization, overseeing two managers, and 10 supporting staff. Strategically develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive multimodal (bus, commuter rail, light rail) safety program, applying system safety and safety management systems principles through accident investigation, regulatory compliance, and hazard management.
Starting Salary Range: $111,488- $126,547
Full Salary Range: $111,488 – $168,314
Bachelor’s degree in industrial safety, safety engineering, transportation management, or a closely related field AND nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience developing and implementing operations safety programs, preferably in commuter rail, light rail, or bus transportation systems.
