Forklift Safety Technician (FST)
Course Objectives:
Each year, tens of thousands of forklift-related injuries occur in U.S. workplaces. Many employees are injured when lift trucks are inadvertently driven off loading docks or lifts fall between docks and an unsecured trailer. Employees are also struck by a lift truck or fall while on elevated pallets and tines. Most incidents also involve property damage, including damage to overhead sprinklers, racking, pipes, walls, and machinery. Unfortunately, most employee injuries and property damage can be attributed to lack of safe operating procedures, lack of safety-rule enforcement, and insufficient or inadequate training.
Learning Outcome:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to differentiate the different types of forklifts and powered industrial equipment, understand materials handling techniques, understand operating techniques, determine hazards associated with powered industrial equipment and implement and maintain a forklift/powered industrial equipment safety program.
Course Prerequisites:
This course is a recertification course. The student must have earned his/her initial Forklift License in-person prior to registering for this online course.
Online Exams:
The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive certification. You have three opportunities to pass the exam.
Optional Credits:
The estimated time required to complete the course is 20 hours, but can be done at the student's own pace. Two (2) CEUs are offered through the University of North Carolina at Wilmington for this course.
